Seemed to be real and spoke to somebody i spoke to previously at British Gas. They didn't do Data Protection with me, but that's fine as we didn't discuss anything major. Just updating me on my complaint

Called and asked whether they were speaking to Mr (my surname). Confirmed, and was told they were British Gas calling about offering me a Smart Meter. Already told BG I do not want a Smart Meter so clearly a scam.

Called 4.30pm and asked for me by name ( but mispronounced) .Caller said he was from Nritish Gad - " your gas supplier" and was calling to arrange to fit a Smart meter " at no cost to yourself". I replied that I did not want a smart meter thankyou, and ended the call.

Called at 18:15 and said they were from British Gas to arrange for a 'Smart meter' (so called) to be fitted. BG already knows, after numerous refusals from me, that I do not, or need, a so called 'Smart meter' to be fitted. It's that simple.

6 calls in 3 days Answered the first time and complete silence. Answered the second time and all I could here is people in the background chatting. Ended up blocking the number and have noticed that they are contacting at 11am and then at 2pm. Clearly some sort of dialled system.

Same thing happens with me. They phone and all I get is silent, or once answered asking for my partner when I was at work. Just answered "sorry wrong number". They rang me back and I got the silence again.

Said they were British Gas and wanted to offer a smart meter. They needed me to confirm whether I live in a flat or house. Then asked if "ALE2" was my postcode, pretty sure that isn't a valid postcode. They asked for my postcode so I hung up. Real BG should already have my info on record.

Claimed to be calling to arrange fitting a smart meter from BG. Knew my surname but nothing else. When they asked what property I lived in I said "If you're BG you should know. What address are you calling about" they then hung up. If this isn't a scam BG need to educate there staff and teach them some makers. Number Now Blocked

Call re smart meter, gave an appointment for someone to come view, when dialled number back it was the british gas welcome. Never asked for any inappropriate information and was able to give me the information they had on file.

Said they were from British Gas. Said my boiler was older (could not say how old) and needed to be looked at and also they would give me a quote for a new one. Wanted to do face time or watsap. When I asked how could they look at the boiler over watsapp or facetime said they would have to get back to me...Possible scam

British Gas Smart Meter (Telemarketer) reported by


Called yesterday and asked for me by surname. They said British Gas engineers were in the area and ready to install my smart meter. I said that I refused a smart meter and the caller hung up. They called again today and I decided to answer the call again. Similar caller asking for me by surname and then asking "how are you today?" - to which I replied "can you please just get on with the purpose of the call?". The caller hung up. I have now blocked the number.
