They called, the line wasn't very clear, they said it's from British Gas, then the line went off. Point is: the mobile number they called me on is not the number that I have registered with BG. Therefore this is NOT A LEGITIMATE CALL. If it's really BG, they are doing this illegitimately and one should tell them to not bother people with cold calling. If it's not BG, then it's a scam. Either way, be very careful and don't let them play you.

I do have a BG account (for electricity) at home. My phone line is a works VOIP number (I don't have a personal fixed phone line) and I work from home online. So if it's not aggressive marketing, why are they phoning a business number to discuss a meter (domestic or otherwise). They can do what my home office chair does ...swivel!

"British Gas" phoned again (third time in a month or so) today on mobile following previous contacts on land line but hung they hung up straight away. Previous calls purport to want to install a smart meter. Number may be genuine BG but spoofed. It's very close to other British Gas numbers. They know my name but want me to confirm my identity, address etc. but I won't do this until they have given me my customer reference number and the last amount I have paid. They have called me so it is up to them to extablish who they are first in the same way as somebody at the door would have to before I accept them. This seems like data phishing. It's an impasse and after I've played around with the caller a bit they hang up or I do; they can get quite angry. Marking this as negative because they will not establish who they are before they've had extra data from me which isn't going to happen. If they want to fit a smart meter they can write to me at the address they want me to verify!

tried to force a smart meter on me, I told them I didn't want one and they insisted they need a proper reason for the refusal. I don't want one there is your reason, don't call again you pillock!!!!

Absolutely correct why should these greedy companys force something on you that you DON'T want, they should First of all they should appreciate your loyalty as a customer, and not to force things upon you, after all we are old enough to make our own decisions.

I phoned up Scottish gas, they said it is a genuine number the government has a scheme so everyone has a smart meter, I don't know if I want it done
