Claimed to be British Gas but I wasn't convinced. (Telemarketer) reported by


This number has called me twice in the past two days. A heavy foreign accent telling me to upgrade to a Smart Meter. It MAY be genuine but how would I know? I've been caught out with the same sort of thing from BT in the past and don't want to get 'conned' again. If British Gas need to contact me they'll have to find another way.

These people said they were British Gas and they needed to upgrade my meter. So I told them I do not do business via phone or online, send me a letter explain what they want to do. They then said we do not want to waste paper, so I repeated to them, send me a letter. I felt these people were using aggressive marketing.

I also had a call from them... they said they were from British Gas and got our names and address correct but then said we pay by direct debit but we do not pay by direct debit... so I suspect a sophisticated scam.

British Gas quoted for new boiler installation at mothers address.. Caller required details from me of my elderly mother to confirm with her non sign up and allow reimbursement of deposit. I advised no authority been given for any deposit or withdrawal of monies to BG. I ended call. Bank Account checked and no deposit paid to BG.......Pressure sales or Scam??????

British gas (genuine) Hard sell on smart meters, had to argue with them when I said I didn't want one. This is thinly guised as "your meter is due for an upgrade" which could be misleading.

There's no "could be" about it. BG keep calling me about smart meters i block one number then they try with a different number. When this no. Just called me for the first time they didn't hang up and they inadvertently recorded on my voicemail it was quite funny as there were three asian ladies arguing with each other in what I presume is their native language. Tactics have changed rather than try and persuade you to have a smart meter they say "you're meter must be changed now so we need to arrange an appt to change your meter". Nevermind that i rent and have no authority to change meters. Nevermind that my solar panels make me ineligible. Nevermind that it won't be compulsory for a few years. Nevermind that GDPR means they are not allowed to call me. Nevermind that the number they call on is a line kept live just for emergencies as I am disabled.
