Unsolicited call (Robocall) reported by Laus
Rang several times with a message from a mobile number I don't know with a message that made no sense to me and certainly wasn't from anyone I know. The number was 07799656786 which doesn't appear in any other searches so could just be a mistake.

It's an audio text service. This number is one of several service numbers that relays audio translations of a text someone sent to your landline. Bucket loads of information about how this particular system works provided on this site and on other sites. Unusual for most unknown calls, there are simple methods to identify and avoid any scammers using the system. But to find out what this is, it is necessary to read back several pages of posts. Everything you need to know is there. Good luck!!!!

Unnerving patterns (Nuisance call) reported by Piper
This number has been calling me often for the past two weeks. I get that its a text messaging service but does it have to stop ringing every time I get to my living room door despite has fast or slowly I get there? I haven't given my house phone number to anyone but the job center and my parents and they swear it isn't them. Varies from 7:45am to 10:45pm and because I never get the chance to answer it, I couldn't tell you who is sending the text messages. It'sinfuriating

If this number calls again, stand next to the landline with mobile in hand and send a text message to your landline. This number should call a few seconds later with any luck although there are a couple of mobile networks that use a different audio text to landline system. Pick up the phone when it rings and listen closely to the message and instructions. That's how this system works. Also be aware that text messages sent via this service will mean this number will attempt to relay it over a 24 hour period before timing out and deleting the message.
Anon 14
Chargerble? Chargeable? There is no charge to pick up a genuine text message sent to a landline via this audio service. If you call this number back to pick up the text message there will be a charge of 5p per minute plus network connection charge. You can connect for free by sending a text from your mobile to your landline. When this number calls a few seconds later you can pick up and listen for free. And you will know that it is safe as the computer will read out the originating mobile numbers that you can check. NOTE: This particular text to landline audio service will delete genuine text messages after the 24 hours that it will attempt to deliver it.

Nuisance Call (Nuisance call) reported by Joey
Repetitively phones from 7am till 11pm. Started ringing about 4 months ago, was extremely harassing for around a week, then disappeared until now. I have an unlisted number and do not give my home number out so don't know who it is or how they got the number. Wish they would go away.

If this number calls again, why not answer it? You can't be conned by listening. Just don't do anything else. Having listened, you can then look up the various number checking sites to get an idea of what to do next.

Anon 13 has got it right. Send a new text from your mobile to your landline and when you pick up landline it will offer you all the text messages sent to you on that day. Simple.

text (Service) reported by jack
Just had a text delivered by voicemail to my landline. Phone kept ringing and ignored the first couple of calls. googled it and it is on the BT site as their text service. Answered next time it rang and pressed 1 to hear the message. Don't understand other comments here. Seems safe to me.

Gatsby
Would not advise pressing 1 to hear the message unless you recognise the sender mobile number (the computer will tell you the originating number before inviting you to press various numbers on your phone). Recommend first run a 'google' check on the originating number if you don't know the number. The advice to send yourself a text before picking up this call is a smart way to to check and listen without incurring any charge. If you only get a message from yourself, you will know the first call was a scammer who spoofed this audio text messaging service number - an increasing and dangerous scam. Most calls from this number will a genuine but be aware that the computer gets confused with things like attachments, links and emojis :-(
Jack
Thanks Gatsby now can you stop flooding other sites with your boring repetitive answers we all know what this number does or can do and you baiting people doesn't help your as bad if not worse than the oort cloud retired i*ot if your not the same person..??

This number is a legit SMS to voice landline service, to cancel SMS text messaging service call free 0800-587-5252 listen to anouncement, then :- press 1 to adjust curfew call times, press 5 to prevent text messages, hopefully this will stop these SMS texts

Audio text service (Service) reported by EssexMan
Definitely a text service. Got a text relayed to my landline via this number. BUT I didn't pick up immediately. I am aware that scammers can spoof this number and get you to press 1 to be connected to a high rate scam number. I just sent myself a text to my landline. When this number called again I could safely listen to both text messages at nil charge. The originating mobile number is always advised when you first pick up.

Text? (Service) reported by Johnny
This number kept ringing my landline. Ignored. Understand it's a text message and a computer is attempting to deliver an audio translation of it. Took the view that if it's important the sender would call me or text me on my mobile.

Quick follow up to my post yesterday. This stupid number called my landline several times more during the day and I got fed up and picked it up. I recognised the sender mobile number as belonging to one of my children. Didn't press any number but called her back. She sent the text to my landline by mistake instead of my mobile. Easy done I suppose.
Caroline
My 80 year old mother in law received a call from this number and she pressed option 1 to listen to the message and it said 'would you like to be kissed'. She put the phone down straight away but was very unnerved about it.

Number keeps calling (Telemarketer) reported by Jamie Winehouse
This number keeps ringing despite me never answering landline calls. I haven't given a landline number to anyone in over 15 years or more, so I know it isn't anyone I know genuinely trying to get through to me. Called late on a Saturday night then again at 8.30am on a Sunday, and persistently for the rest of the day. Serious nuisance.

Message to say food arriving from just eat, not ordered anything! (Robocall) reported by 5.69.177.xxx

Anon 13
This relay service would have given you the originating phone number before you were invited to press 1 to hear the message. That number would be the number to report as possibly iffy. This number is for a computerised relay service and just translates a text message into audio for delivery to a landline. Anything different to this and it could have been a fake call where this number has been spoofed (copied/cloned) although can't think why fraudsters would bother with a silly 'just eat' message. Could be just a misdial?

BT text messaging service (Robocall) reported by Heather
This is a text message that someone has sent to your landline instead of mobile. BT keep ringing for a while to give you the opportunity to listen to the text, delivered by robot voice. Not malicious, a BT service.

retard
we know this if you could add anything new it would be a plus ?
Greyhound
Keep your nose out, retard. I found this explanation useful having just missed the call. Your negative comment just wastes space.
Mickey
Totally agree with Greyhound. Heather's message totally helped me as I had never heard of this service. Therefore retard your the one who should shut up unless you have anything positive and HELPFUL to add.

Service reported by Matt
This is a service which reads out a text message which has been sent to you. The content like any text message can be anything, and it will give you a different number to call back on than this because you'd be calling the originator of the text message, not this service. Think voicemail, but for text messages.

This number was persistently ringing leaving no message. I googled it and found that it could be an SMS message sent by someone to my landline. So I called it back and that's exactly what it was. Parcel force had sent me a text to my landline through BT. Nothing to worry about.

Text to landline (Service) reported by Creature from the Oort
Get regular calls from this number. It's when someone send a text to your landline and this service translates into audio and delivers it to your landline. It will keep ringing until you answer or block it and cuts out when answer phone cuts in. Usually safe to answer but be aware it will not filter out scam texts, more irritating than dangerous, and can be spoofed (copied) which can be very dangerous. Important to recognise the difference between a spoofed call and a genuine call. Try sending a test text to your landline and see what happens. That's what I did a couple of years ago. This is one of several text to landline services. They all cause many questions and much confusion.
