AUDIO TEXT TO HOUSEPHONE (Service) reported by Anon13
This is the BT owned and operated text to speech to landline translation and relay service number. Most phone providers use this service to ensure text messages sent to housephones are delivered. Most calls will be from someone you know texting your housephone instead of your mobile by mistake or it's a business or organisation that you know that has your housephone number as the contact. When you pick up the phone you will be told the ORIGINATING number. You will then be given options to press numbers on your phone. Unless you are confident that the call is legit DO NOT press buttons on your phone. Just hang on and keep listening. The message will be read IF it is translatable by the computer. Attachments, GIFs etc can cause the entire message to fail or spout nonsense. The number will keep calling until the message is answered or it times out and deletes the text after 24 hours. Hanging up before the message is read out will just save the message and the system will keep on trying to deliver it. This service will not call between the hours of 11pm and 8am. But check those other posts on this feed! Someone really does not want anyone to know how to SAFELY pick up their message. Incidentally, in the unlikely event of a scam message getting through via this system report the originating number not this fully automated relay service number. Scam numbers and the scam details should be reported by text to 7726. If you are victim of a scam, report it first to your bank to protect your account and then report it to the police at Action Fraud. Call 101 if in Scotland or 03001232040 if in the rest of the UK.

Message saying my bank car had been used. (Scam call) reported by Jake
Below is a quote about optic fibre digital voice system from the last few green posts ANON 13 "I've had letters, emails and at least 5 audio text messages to my housephone from BT in the past few weeks telling me what to do as my region switched." And below is what the bt web site says. "Over the next 12 months, BT will also focus on migrating those most ready to switch – that means certain people won't be migrated, including: People with healthcare pendants (or other similar devices) Those over 70 People living in areas with no or poor mobile reception Customers who have made BT aware of with any additional needs" So folks just to prove this low life green poster is telling lies again, he claims he as health problems, he claims he is over 70, he claims he lives in an area with no phone signal, so that folks is 3 reason out of 4 why bt will not be migrating these people, but yet this sick dangerous individual posting in green claims bt have already changed him and sent letters and emails and at least 5 messages, how can this possibly happen when bt clearly say they will not migrate these people on to the system. ANY ONE FOLLOWING THE GREEN POST FAKE UN VEIFIED, UN RATED POSTS DESERVES TO BE SCAMMED, ANYONE WITH A BRAIN CELL CAN READ HE IS A SAD FAKE OUT TO CONFUSE AND SCAM THE ELDERLY. REALLY IS VERY SAD.

This number is a fully automated text service. It calls non text enabled house phones with an audio translation of text messages sent to it. You will not get cold callers using this BT system.
Anon 13
I now have to admit that this number is a scammers paradise since the spoofers make people they think they are from bt and scam the elderly. This happens thousands of times a day and the mu.ber is highly dangerous. I apologise for the confusion I caused. PS you won't miss any messages and no one gets any legit ones

Audio text service (Service) reported by Anon 13
This annoying number will keep calling your landline because someone has sent a text to it. The system is attempting to relay an audio translation. This is the BT owned text to speech to landline translation and relay service number used by most phone operators and many businesses and organisations. See the banner post at the top of this page. The system can’t work with answerphones and will keep on and on trying to deliver the message until it times out and deletes the message after 24 hours, or is blocked, or is answered. The system is free to answer. It only works on landlines. You can call back within the 24 hour period to retrieve your message. There is a business rate charge of 5p per minute plus your network connection charge to call back. When you pick up the call, the system will tell you the originating number and then give you options to press buttons on your phone. IGNORE THE OPTIONS. Just hang on and the computer will read out the message when it runs out of options. That is the safest way to pick up your message – no one should press a button on your phone just because a computer tells you. Be aware the system is not perfect. The system has problems translating long complex numbers like order/reference numbers or txt abbreviations and can’t handle emojis/links/attachments. Scam texts can’t be filtered out but the scam number to report is the originating number not this relay number. Try sending a “test txt 2yr landline 2c wot hppns. HELP! SCAM! CALL 999 lolx Lmao XXXX Grrr EEK!! ;-[“ A google search of this number and checking ALL the results will provide additional information

The fact that this thieving grifter has the audacity to lie and say no scams have ever been reported on this service. Obviously that's a bold faced lie. He is a scammer.

This is a text to speech to landline translation and relay service number. It is owned and operated by BT and used by most phone providers to deliver SMS text messages sent to non text enabled landline phones. You can block this number from calling by using your landline phone number blocking facility but these often have a maximum limit on blocked numbers and will fail if the limit is exceeded. Think before blocking genuine business numbers. It is free to answer. To avoid spoofed calls from this number do not press buttons on your phone when requested by the computer. Just hang on and listen. The message will be read out when the computer runs out of options. Simples.

This is a spoofed number used by scammers and that pathetic green poster aka sedna is the culprit. Scams include tax rebate, covid booster, fake delivery. Protect the elderly this number is not safe !
4
Sedna
NONSENSE. I think you are neurotic. This number will only call landlines if a text is sent to it. The phone provider will intercept it, and translate into audio. The audio text will then be forwarded to the landline via this number. When you pick up the phone, the computer voice will tell you the originating number before listing several options. To avoid spoofed calls, where scammers spoof (copy/clone) the genuine number, ignore all options that the computer voice offers. Just hang on and do nothing but listen. The message will be read out when the computer reaches the end of the options. Simples . Scams and scammers should be reported to the police fraud agency on 03001232040

Text message to landline service (Robocall) reported by Bex
This is what happens when someone sends a text message to a landline. You get an automated call stating the telephone number it came from and then options to listen or save message. It’s a normal service run by BT even if you don’t use BT yourself it still comes from them. Perfectly harmless.

PayPal are asking me to give them a telephone number. Only have a land line, so entered that, supposed to get a code number, sent to my telephone. Nothing happened, so I logged out of PayPal. 10 minutes later, I get a call from 08456021111, with a message saying 'You have dialled the wrong number, please try again. Presumably had I done so, I would have got my code to log on to PayPal. Wait too long to enter the code number PayPal may cancel my log on.

Anon 13
08456021111 is the service number that translates text messages sent to landlines into audio. Seems as though the auto PayPal system attempted to send a text and failed. You may want to take it up with PayPal. Sadly, having both a computer and a mobile phone with good signals seems to be essential if using modern banking and payment/money transfer systems. This number is, by the way, a useful and good audio text system - most of the time. Incidentally, when you picked up your ringing phone, you would have been told the originating number before the computer voice gave you various options. Did you make a note of the number?

Genuine Parcel Notification (Service) reported by MeHere
Text to landline service. When I listened to the call it told me a parcel had been shipped for delivery on Thurs. Genuine parcel containing medical supplies. No idea why they should have text my landline when they have my mobile though. I think I may need to update my medical records with the NHS to use my mobile rather than landline.

Audio text (Robocall) reported by Anon 13
This number called my landline. It does happen from time to time. It is the BT owned and operated text to speech to landline translation and relay service number. Most phone providers and many businesses use this service if the system picks out a text sent to a non text enabled landline phone. The trick to remember is you can't be scammed by picking up a ringing phone but do absolutely nothing but listen. The computer will announce itself before telling you the originating phone number. You will then be offered some options. Ignore them. Just listen. The computer will read out the message eventually The message I just got was from my electricity supply company regarding a new smart meter installation. They only have my landline as the contact. Free to answer. Test the system by sending a text to your landline.

This week I was once again hit by a SCAMMER. If I don't answer if I don't recognise the number. what made me pick up this morning !!!! I don't want TEXT on my landline. This number has now called me 4 more times, whilst typing this. Positive if I allow 1 text then it will encourage companies to text me, as the ridiculous unwanted emails received daily.

Gatsby
This is the BT Openreach text to speech to landline translation and relay service number used by many businesses and most phone operators. The system picks out text messages sent to a non text enabled landline and attempts to relay it in audio format until it times out and deletes the message after 24 hours. When you pick up the computer will announce itself and then will tell you the originating phone number. If you keep listening and do not follow the instructions to press buttons on your phone, the message will eventually be read out. These audio text systems do not respond to answer phones, will not filter out scam texts and can't handle txt lol X X ;-( or emojis or links. These systems - there are at least 6 to my knowledge - are free to answer. If you want to block this number be certain that absolutely no organisation has your landline number as a contact (that includes utility and energy companies as well as NHS services) and send yourself a text message. When you pick up one option to press a button on your phone will be to block future calls. Takes about 30 minutes to.kick in
You can't be conned by picking up a ringing phone and just listen. Don't do anything else.

This BT number keeps ringing my landline at strange times but no messages from automated voice. I think it’s a scammer who is using the number because no one knows my landline number except family and BT. BT also contacted my mobile to say my landline had an issue but they don’t do that… if I have an issue I ring BT. They’re far too busy to monitor individual landlines.

Keeps ending before I reach the phone! (Unsolicited call) reported by Adrian
Even if it's the text service described, it's annoying as it woke me up soon after 7am and then repeatedly rang at intervals, although for too short a time for me to reach the phone! So, it resembles nuisance calls even if it isn't, which presumably indicates why it has such a poor rating.
1
George
Text messages stored on the audio relay system get deleted after 24 hours so it may be too late to retrieve the message. If it happens again stand next to your landline phone and send a test text to it. This number is free to answer so pick up and listen. Don't press any buttons as suggested by the computer voice, just listen. Alternatively, call this number back from your landline. There will be a small business rate charge to call back 5p per minute plus your network access charge. Of course, it could be a scam text sent randomly to thousands of phone numbers. Unfortunately these systems can't filter out scam texts but these are more annoying than dangerous to all but the most vulnerable

Called my landline. Computer message told me I had a text message. Missed the sender number so let the computer voice continue. Offered many options to press numbers on my phone. Ignored. Then the introductory message ended. About to hang up when the computer read the message. From my electricity supplier. Had a smart meter installed and OVO wanted to know how well they did. Wanted me to select a number but can't do that on a landline. Bit as silly but this text service seemed to work as it should
