SMS text to voice service (Robocall) reported by

I was worried about this call which said I had a voicemail, I then continued to listen (without pressing any buttons), it then went on to play me the message. Turns out someone I know had tried to text my landline and it was just an automated message converting the SMS message into a voice mail

Keeps ending before I reach the phone! (Unsolicited call) reported by

Even if it's the text service described, it's annoying as it woke me up soon after 7am and then repeatedly rang at intervals, although for too short a time for me to reach the phone! So, it resembles nuisance calls even if it isn't, which presumably indicates why it has such a poor rating.

Text messages stored on the audio relay system get deleted after 24 hours so it may be too late to retrieve the message. If it happens again stand next to your landline phone and send a test text to it. This number is free to answer so pick up and listen. Don't press any buttons as suggested by the computer voice, just listen. Alternatively, call this number back from your landline. There will be a small business rate charge to call back 5p per minute plus your network access charge. Of course, it could be a scam text sent randomly to thousands of phone numbers. Unfortunately these systems can't filter out scam texts but these are more annoying than dangerous to all but the most vulnerable

Audio text (Service) reported by

Called my landline. Computer message told me I had a text message. Missed the sender number so let the computer voice continue. Offered many options to press numbers on my phone. Ignored. Then the introductory message ended. About to hang up when the computer read the message. From my electricity supplier. Had a smart meter installed and OVO wanted to know how well they did. Wanted me to select a number but can't do that on a landline. Bit as silly but this text service seemed to work as it should

KEPT ON RINGING (Robocall) reported by

I answered this the first time and got an incomprehensible message. It then rang a further 9 times today and I ignored it.

George

When you answer calls from this number, the computer attempting to relay the text message will always tell you the originating number before inviting you to press 1 to listen to the audio translation of the typed text. That originating number should always be checked before proceeding. This safety advice had been around for many years on many phone number checking sites. Try sending a test text to your own landline. That's what genuine calls from this usually safe messaging service sound like when you answer. The service is free to answer

text delivery service to landline. (Service) reported by

It's a text delivery service. Rather than risk pressing'1' I called it back and it seemed ok. Message was from a parcel delivery but it diligently rang and rang because it didn't know any better. If the parcel company had used my mobile rather than my landline none of this would happen. In short, perfectly safe (if a little naggy)

Text message (Service) reported by

Clearly stated a mobile number which when checked was a mate and a text was sent to me on my landline (I'm with talk talk) it's a BT service on all providers ,not sure how it can be mistaken for a scam if you are of sound mind !

M. Jolly

I had this number call my mobile and leave a very long winded message supposedly from Vodafone. Not sure how a text relay service did this when my mobile obviously accepts texts

Gatsby

This number can only call landline phones. The computer system that intercepts and translates text messages sent to a non-text enabled landline phone into audio will attempt to relay the message. This BT computer system that most mobile phone operators use cannot call a mobile phone.

Audio text delivery service (Other) reported by

it's a service to deliver a text to a landline, in my case from a company I'de placed an order with telling me when my parcel was due to arrive. The service could be used by pretty much anyone, so it's impossible to say all calls from this number are legit, or all are scams. It won't do you any harm to listen to the text message being read to you though.

BT text delivery service (Service) reported by

I initially didn't pick up but listened to the voice mail - electronic voice asking me if I had finished work yet. The sort of question my son asks so I texted him back and he confirmed it was him so all good.
2

Gatsby

When you first picked up the call, the introductory message should have given you the originating text phone number. Safety advice states the originating number should be checked to ensure it is genuine before pressing `1 to listen to the message.

dony answer scammer call bt

Gatsby

How do you know it's a scammer if you don't answer? This is a BT/Openreach owned service number used by most mobile phone companies and many businesses to relay audio translations of text messages someone sent to your landline. When you pick up, the introductory message will tell you the originating number. ALWAYS check that number before following the subsequent instructions. See also other advice provided under. A usually safe service. Scammers can use it but are easy to pick out and avoid - if you know how. BT will tell you to call this number back to safely retrieve your message but that will incur a small business rate charge.

Samantha

The people who have used it to txt my landline are scammers as it is saying that some woman abused their dog and to pass it on lol ????

BT / scam (Robocall) reported by

This is a genuine BT number, which has been spoofed. If it is a scam, you will be asked to press 1 to listen to the message. If it is BT, you will be able to hear the message by continuing to hold.
1

Gatsby

The genuine BT text messaging service will always tell you the originating number before offering several options including 'press 1' on your phone key to listen to the message. This free service can easily be checked just by sending a text to your landline. If you do this when this number is calling, you will know the call is safe and not spoofed if one of the originating numbers is from your mobile. Don't know about holding on to pick up the message as never tried it but will next time it calls.

This was an incomprehensible message and a repeated nuisance call (Robocall) reported by

This is the sort of thing that should be banned. If someone wants to talk to me then call me or use the mobile. Sending text messages to my land line is incredibly stupid.
1

Gatsby

Easy to opt out of this audio text service. Best way is to send a text to your own landline, pick up when this number calls a minute or so later and listen. One option will be to block future calls. Takes about 30 minutes to kick in. This service is free to answer and free to block. But are you sure no one could accidentally send a text to your landline instead of your mobile? Blocking through your own provider free blocking system may not always work. There are reports that the calls keep coming after blocking but that may be because some blocking systems have a limit on blocked numbers and will fail if the limit is exceeded.

BT Message.......mobile text to our land line (Robocall) reported by

As per Jacks helpful advice....sent a text to my land line to check it out. Yep. Sure enough the helpful BT system told me of the two messages now received. So I listened to the first one......agh. $multi million lottery win junk call. It will now delete automatically. There was no “press button to connect to sender)” which would have upset me immensely(I’m ex BT).......

That scam text would have had an originating phone number. That's the scam number to report to the police. This text relay service is just doing it's job.

Lots of calls from this number (Telemarketer) reported by

I just checked my call log and have seen many calls from this number. My phone blocked them all. I'm guessing it's spam. For it to call so so many times, don't trust.
1

Gatsby

This number will keep on calling because it's a computer trying to relay an audio translation of a text someone sent to your landline phone. It stops after 24 hours when the message is deleted. Plenty of info around with scam avoidance tips if you look.

SCAM,SCAM, SCAM call (Robocall) reported by

Scam call. Amazon,Police Fraud, my ISP all know about it. Worst thing is I cannot get rid of daily calls. I am 80 and live on my own. Have heart problems. I pull phone plug out at night. This worries me if I hve to phone 999. I have a mobile but forget to put in bedroom.
3

Gatsby

This is a BT owned and operated text to landline audio translation relay number used by most mobile phone operators. Very unlikely that Amazon scams will arrive via this genuine business number. Amazon scams are usually recorded messages from fake landline numbers and they rarely use the same number more than for a few days. I suspect the post above could be fake but if not, stand next to your landline with mobile in hand and send yourself a text message. You will hear what genuine calls from this number sounds like. Alternatively, contact your landline phone provider and get them to block this number calling your house phone. Simples

Jack

Lmao like this is genuine spot the mistake #helpjack

Oldtimer

Two things come to mind. 1. When this service makes the call, the caller I’d should not be the bit service number but the number that sent the text. That way, you know immediately who is texting you and you can then decide how to proceed. 2. You should be able to press a key that informs the bit robot not to ring you back every five minutes or so.

This number is one of the audio text to landline relay services. Someone sent a text to your landline. It will call up to 15 times in a 24 hour period unless answered or blocked. All but one or two mobile phone operators use this BT/Openreach service. When you pick up, the message will tell you the originating number. That number should be checked before pressing any buttons on your phone as directed by the computer. Alternatively send a text from your mobile to your landline. This number will call a few seconds later and you can then safely listen to all waiting text messages. No charge to pick up. Messages are deleted after 24 hours.

said it was a message from parcel force
2

Jack's

There are many reports of Parcel Force using this text to landline audio service to confirm a delivery slot. Usually a safe service but best ensure that absolutely no one gets your landline number when ordering things so you only get texts to your mobile. Also, that includes all utility companies and GP, dentist, optician, schools, Covid-19 test and trace etc etc.

Old retired ass

But no mention of why parcel force rang and what for , and why post in red, absolute waste of air.

It's an audio text service. This number is one of several service numbers that relays audio translations of a text someone sent to your landline. Bucket loads of information about how this particular system works provided on this site and on other sites. Unusual for most unknown calls, there are simple methods to identify and avoid any scammers using the system. But to find out what this is, it is necessary to read back several pages of posts. Everything you need to know is there. Good luck!!!!

A Real Person Esq.

Be aware that there is a nutter trolling this site copying and pasting posts about this number from other sites and, obviously, originally posted by other people. Some of these posts may not necessarily be incorrect but that is not the point. That post by Burt above clearly wants advice on how to fix the time when this text service can call the landline so it does not call at silly times. I know how to do this, but does the troll?

Anon 13

If this number calls again, stand next to the landline with mobile in hand and send a text message to your landline. This number should call a few seconds later with any luck although there are a couple of mobile networks that use a different audio text to landline system. Pick up the phone when it rings and listen closely to the message and instructions. That's how this system works. Also be aware that text messages sent via this service will mean this number will attempt to relay it over a 24 hour period before timing out and deleting the message.
