A woman rang saying she was from HSBC and asked for our account number. When I probed to find out why she needed to know our account number, it turned she didn't have any details about the business eg Company name etc. It sounded suspicious to me so I asked her to route the query through our Relationship Manager, at which point she hung up. Ee heard nothing more about it.

100% genuine HSBC call. This was a follow-up call regarding an account query that I had made earlier that day. I suppose spammers could spoof this number. But if it's genuine, bear in mind that the caller will never ask you for confidential information such as your password - only, say, the 3rd and 5th number of your telephone banking security code.

this is genuine hsbc. I had a letter about counter services being reduced a while ago. they only rang to say it is looming but the automated machines at the entrance are not affected. did not ask for any sensitive info and was merely a courtesy call to make sure people had received the letter

Last week I answered and it was clearly a scam as the caller pretended to be from my bank, but wanted my ID number; banks never ask for this as they know it; they ask security questions. This number should be blocked or shut down.

Didn't know the number but did pick up the phone but didn't say anything so whoever it was ended the call. If it was a legit call I would have expected someone to say something so I assume it was a scam call.

I think the call was legit. But the lady sounded foreign which made me suspicious so I hung up. Looks as though it is a HSBC number however. Ringing a mobile is a strange way to do business.

Sounded unprofessional, when i picked up phone the person continued saying goodbye to someone in the room, words slurred but sounded like 'hello i'm calling from HSBC'. Said I couldn't really hear so he said 'I'll call you back'. I blocked number before he could, in case the call was costing me large amounts of money (I heard that can happen). Definitely sounds scam to me, and judging by the number of others writing, I suspect it is. Those saying it's HSBC could easily be the scammers themselves or their mates! Please trust your gut feeling, protect yourselves and don't take risks at all. If a genuine firm really needed to contact you they would follow up by other means, including an official phone number, email, or even via my actual online banking page! I have reported this to Police ActionFraud and suggest you do the same.
