Scam reporter

Reference 034578884xx. The above number is used by thieves/ individuals defrauding people. This is the number used by individual/s claiming to be from Nat West Bank Fraud Team. They called, sounded very professional & advised that they were following up on a reported suspicious transaction. I called Nat west directly & they reported that there was no such issue & they did not have a "K. P." . Do not respond to this telephone number.

I was called by this number a few days ago, and incidentally I was actually in the branch. I suggested to the operative that they concentrated on dealing with customers in branch as at the time there was only one cashier and a huge queue. At this point they said they had to deal with a colleagues issues and would get back to me. Since then I have spoken to Natwest and they have assured me that this telephone number is not recognised on their system! .

Said he was Tom Anderson from Natwest Fraud Team trying to stop a suspicious direct debit recently set up to Mohammed Khan for £250.00. Gave me my name, address, account, sort code and security question with answer. I said I'd call back and asked for his number and extension. He said no need as his number was on the back of my card - which it was - and if I refused to cooperate he would go ahead and authorise the payment and I would not be able to make a reclaim.. I said I'd call the bank directly and he said it was a good idea. Double checked with the bank - no such direct debit and no call from Nat West.

A woman from Natwest called from 0345 788 8444 to invite me to a financial health check/review. She didnt give me much info and asked me to come into the branch. I've never had this type of invitation before so I was naturally suspicious. I said Im at work and will call Natwest back when I have time and she said ok and hung up so I was even more suspicious... I called the Natwest customer services line (0800 200 400) and they said the number was genuine and from time to time they invite people for a financial health check/review.

I missed a call from this number however it said natwest so I called them back. Natwest advised that the call was not from them. I explained that the caller ID flagged has being natwest. He explain that scammers can also make calls and somehow pick up the genuine natwest contact number so it seems genuine when in fact it's not. If you call the number back however it will go through to natwest but the call originally came from a scammer using natwest number. Found it v confusing bit the guy advised to always call back rather then answering a call even if it says natwest.

This number showed up on my phone as NatWest but definitely isn't. The scam has cost me £19,000 although hopefully NatWest may be able to recover it. Both NatWest & police fraud departments are investigating the scam.

A male rang me offering me a financial review. I declined as I was at work and I also said that I wanted all such communications from my bank to be in writing. I do not think the caller was genuine, because my bank does not call me to suggest such things; they contact me by email or text message if they do not write a letter.

Caller purporting to be Natwest Fraud team questioning account activity. They suggested raining them back on the number, which I didn't trust. After time spent checking my account and being asked to do a test transfer I became suspicious and put the phone down. I then rang NatWest who said it was a scam.

Received a call at my office today from a (possibly Indian) stating they were from NatWest asking if I had given my bank details out to anyone recently who wasn't possibly who they said they were. When I answered yes, he went on to ask if I had logged in to online banking recently, and more specifically in the past 20mins leading up to the call. I said no. He then wanted to confirm that I hadn't made a transaction of £2000 to a David Smith. I said no again. He then said he would cancel that transaction and that he wanted to send me out another cheque book. I asked 'you are from NatWest, aren't you?' - he promptly hung up! The odd (and scary) thing is, is that they called from 03457 888 444 which is actually NatWest's number!! I called my bank and they confirmed they did not call me. They don't even have my work number on file...
