I had a missed call, they left a voicemail and gave me a number to call back on. I was hesitant so called the normal First Direct line and they confirmed it was indeed a genuine call. They had blocked a large payment which was me so all worked out fine but was 100% a legitimate call.

Called saying they believed my card was being used fraudulently. Tried to get me to answer "Security Check Questions" when I queried which account they were calling about they quoted numbers that did not correspond with my accounts when I challenged them they tried to convince me otherwise by stating it was card starting 5574 I challenged them and saying that just confirms it is a First Direct Account. He then hung up on me.

I was scammed, luckily my real bank sent me a letter about the fraudulent transactions and I called the number on the letter. The call was a scamm and they tried to take a loan out from my details. First Direct will never ask details they will call leave a voice message and if no contact send a letter.

Somehow these fraudsters have programmed the phone system to appear like it's calling from this number, however they people I spoke to were trying to hack into my bank account using credit card details they obtained online. Very worrying.

Pretended to be from Starling Bank, told me someone had tried to set up Samsung Pay and asked if it was me, I said no. They said in order to stop this I had to read out a code from a text which I stupidly did. The girl was British and should be thoroughly ashamed. They tried to take over 2 grand but it was more than my balance so was declined. Stopped card. Don’t trust Starling now it’s the 2nd time someone has got hold of my details.

This number called 3 times in an afternoon, I recognised it as First Direct as that is who I bank with so called them back. They confirmed that no-one from First Direct had tried to call me and that the call was a scam. First Direct will only try twice before leaving a message and recommend that you always say you will call them back to be certain they are who they say they are. Worryingly, I used the callback service when I called them so it's really hard to tell if these things are legitimate!

I was suspicious as the woman said it was urgetnt I speak to them today but wouldn't tell me what about unless I answered some security questions. I declined and waited 10 minutes, made another call to make sure that my line was clear, then called the bank back and explained what had happened. Turned out to be genuine, checking that two large cheques we had issued were genuine before they paid them. However I will still treat any such calls as suspicious and contact the bank myself to verify.

Call showed from first direct number but man was very aggressive - asking for confirmation of my log in details after telling me he was fraud dept of first direct - he said 2 fraudulent uses of my card that day I said I wanted to call first direct myself then he said I would be in very long queue . Rand FD - no such call from fraud dept - this is 2nd I have received BEWARE

Apparently it's a real First Direct number but something seemed very off. I googled the number and this site was the first to come up, so thanks everyone for commenting here, you confirmed that my suspicions were accurate. I told them that I would ring back on the regular FD number and they rang off.

Your card has been temporarily blocked and a member of our fraud team will contact you shortly. And it gives a reference. Contacted bank directly and no fraud and account not blocked. Expect a call from them soon.

Actual number of First Direct but is a scam claiming to be from the fraud department of First Direct. What was even more worrying is that I hung up and called first direct myself and got through to someone at first direct who said the call was legitimate and nothing to worry about, there were notes from the fraud team call on my account. Anyway, that was also part of the scam as they can keep your line open to them and then it goes to them again when you dial out... Very scary indeed!!

Claimed to be calling from first direct and used their official number so seemed convincing. Said there had been unusual activity on my account and after adding detail, started asking for security information to freeze my account. Started to become suspicious and hung up. Had a look on here to see there were reports with the same thing. I rang first direct and they confirmed it was a scam. They rang back another three times in the period of time where I googled the number and rang first direct. Very scary that they can use their number. Will always be ringing first direct back from now on.

Exactly this. People saying it’s first direct number so nothing to worry about are wrong. This happened to me last year and I was scammed out of almost £30k. They clone first direct number so it looks like the call is off them. It is NOT! I lost all faith in first direct and closed my account. 6 months later have just had the same call from ‘First Direct’ about a suspicious transaction! My advice would be to bank elsewhere. I don’t know where first direct good reviews come from?!
