M&S (possible) fraudulent card use alerti (Financial services) reported by


M & S' card fraud team. Bit disconcerting as the text message alert and request to call back in it comes from ' HSBC'(who I idnt have an accoutn with). The number suggested to call back is NOT the same as on the back of my credit card either. Called the number ON the back of my credit card and established that it WAS legit though

Checking on a fraudulent transaction which was not done by me. So this was a genuine call. When I called them back from my house phone, I told the operator I was suspicious and didn't want to give any information, to which he replied 'no problem, please dall the number on the back of your credit card '. To which I did and got through to the relevant team and send there had been an attempted fraudulent transaction made.

This is definitely M&S Fraud Department ringing you. I received a call from this number on Monday evening, was a bit wary as the caller spoke with a very thick foreign accent and was difficult to understand at times. Very strange that the first thing they ask you for is your date of birth followed by your password, although they did say the letter it began with and my security question. They advised someone had attempted to fraudulently use my credit card and wanted me to confirm whether certain transactions were mine and said I would receive a letter detailing all of the transactions for me to confirm as to whether they are mine or not. They also wanted me to reset my password which I did and this then made me worried that it was not a genuine call. I finished the call and immediately called the number on the back of my CC. They confirmed it was a genuine call so panic over! However I think it would be better if the caller identified themselves in a better way before asking for personal information and that they only asked for certain letters of your password rather than all of it.
