She claims to be from O2 and is aparently giving me 50% off my phone bill but after checking with O2 they confirmed to me that it was 100% not them and probably a fraudulent scam I had to change all of my details because of this lady's call to me stating she was from O2 when she wasn't.

I was called by this number, the lady with an Indian accent said that due to losing customers because of COVID, o2 were offering a discount on my monthly bill. She advised that they would be sending a code through to do a security check and to provide this to her. Obviously I didn't and I hung up. Next thing I know the same number is trying to ring me via Viber. Number blocked. Obviously a scam trying to get into my account.

Call on bad line with many people in background, Asian accent and speaking very fast. Asked him to repeat the message, said I wasn't with O2 anyway and hang up the call. Have just received another call but missed it by good luck.

Small Indian call centre claiming to be O2 mobile and trying to reduce your O2 mobile bill. I am not with O2, the caller basically admitted it was a cold call from an autodialler trying to find their customers through sheer weight of numbers.

Lady with an Indian accent said that she was phoning from my network provider O2. Said that due to covid and my number being special they could offer a special discount. When I said that I don't want the deal she became angry and asked why not. I said that it was a spurious call. She said that I was missing out. Wished her a pleasant day and then hung up.

A guy with a very strong Indian accent claiming to be from O2. He said O2 is offering a 50% discount due to COVID. I was sceptical so I asked him to send me an email. He said he will send me two texts and an email will follow. But in order to do that, I will have to stay on the call for 2 minutes. Immediately hang up. Called back once, didn't pick up.

Very strong Indian accent telling me my number had been selected to get 50% off my O2 bill. Sent through two texts to me then asked me to verify the number and not to speak to anyone about it. When I asked how much would 50% off be, he claimed he couldn’t tell me until he had verified, I was the correct person to whom the offer was being made. Got quite shirty when I said I’d call back - no way - one time offer! I said I didn’t trust him and he swore under his breath then hung up - nice!

O2 phone number called me (didn't recognise until i googled whilst on the phone) Wanted to offer a 50% discount on my contract, couldn't understand a lot of what was being said, then said about a code being sent through, as soon as he said that i hung up the call, they then proceeded to send the code through to my phone from the O2 text number, then tried to call me back another 3 times for the code, i didn't answer. Spoke to the real O2 customer service who put me through to the Fraud department to check my account and bank details were still safe. Do not give the code to anyone!

I didn't recognise the number but answered - it was 0344 809 0202. I actually couldn't understand what they were saying as there was quite a bit of distortion(the caller was very loud & probably too close to the mouthpiece). At first I thought the caller was speaking in foreign language & I politely said I couldn't understand them. They again spoke & I still couldn't understand which I repeated. On the third attempt, I heard the caller say something along the lines of they were from O2 offering a 50% discount but I couldn't understand anything further. The caller was female & sounded Indian. When I again, politely, said I still couldn't understand there was a pause and then she said 'F**k off' and hung up! At this point I googled the number to see if it was genuine as I was going to complain to O2 for obviously outrageous behaviour from an employee towards a customer (as I am with O2). I came across this website & it seems it is a scam call.

Verification of attempted upgrade (Call centre) reported by


Received a text from a generic number advising that I should reply to confirm whether I had attempted an upgrade with O2. Less than a minute later there was a call from this number - I ended the call and advised that I would call back after a meeting (in order to give me time to verify credentials). I called O2 back and they had no record of an attempted upgrade but said that if I had replied I would have received this code which, if shared, would have allowed access to my account. They also verified that the number which appeared on my phone was there official contact number so it had been cloned as my account showed no caller activity or a sign of the alleged upgrade.

Call showed as coming from 0345 809 0202 (which is a genuine O2 number) offering me 40% discount to renew my tariff. Caller arranged for 2 texts to be sent to my phone - the second of which contained a 6 digit code which the caller said was my unique discount code that I needed to tell her for her to process my discount. It would be easy for someone to believe this and give out the code. DO NOT DO THIS! The phone number that appears to call you is a genuine O2 number but it has been spoofed. The caller is not from O2. Never rely on the number appearing on your phone - it isn’t difficult for this to be faked so that the caller appears to be somewhere they’re not. Read the text messages carefully - they have come from O2 but they’ve been triggered by the scam caller. They are genuine O2 messages that are sent went you lock yourself out of your account - the code should never be given out to someone over the phone - it is a code that is entered on the O2 website to gain access to your account (eg if you’ve forgotten your password). If you tell it to anyone they can access your O2 account and all the information it contains eg your name, email address, bank account details etc. If the caller is genuinely from O2 they will know your name, address, what tariff you are on etc before you give them any information and they will never ask for a code that has been texted to you. They will also be happy to give you there name and for you to hang up and call them back on a published O2 number. Scams are getting more believable so we all need to be extra careful.
