Had a further follow up call as I hadn't wanted to change. I ended up this time keeping my old phone and reducing the cost monthly by £2.50 and moving from Limited Data,Text,Speech to 2Gb of Data, unlimited Text and Speech. Most peculiar?????

This is a legit Tesco Mobile call, I got a text from Tesco Mobile at the start of the call confirming the phone call was from them. I got a better deal for a sim I pay for my mum which is saving me money.

All the guys saying this is a scam are ****. I suggest you take a course on phishing techniques. Firslty, this caller knew my name before i said it. Thats the first sign it's not a scam. They do not ask for banking info, just personal details like mother's maiden name and address. It's from a secure landline number, not a mobile line. I succesfully upgraded my phone as I was at the end of my contract, its coming in two days. I repeat I did not need to give sensitive data.

I got a bit caught off guard by this one. A guy on the other end of the call said he was from tesco and my contract was coming to an end and they wanted to offer me an upgrade. They then asked me for my date of birth, the answer to my security question and my postcode and I stupidly answered all the questions. I quickly realsied after I hung up and changed my password and security question, but don't know if I've already been scammed. I'll update when I find out.

To echo a lot of what others have been saying - they seem normal and the standard questions you would get from Tesco - however to confirm Full Name, mothers maiden name and then date of birth, it was the final one that rang alarm bells. If I was paying more attention I wouldn't have answered the second one at all...since I have recently moved, I thought it could have been a courtesy call but seems pretty sketchy.

Said they were Tesco upgrade team. Asked my name, DOB, place of birth. Said I wasn’t happy giving that information, to which he sent a text saying they were Indeed Tesco. Ok I thought. Found a good upgrade deal for me, asked for payment details. Alarm bells, told them I didn’t have my bank card at work, asked them to call back in 1 hour, they didn’t call. Read these comments, then blocked them!
