Don't believe it

Well, I got the call on my mobile - so if someone texted me on my mobile number surely I wouldn't need an "outfit called AQL". Smells like a Scam to me.

This is not a scam number. I ordered items for delivery and put a landline number into the "contact number box" on the website. The supplier must have sent a text (SMS) message to this number with delivery information. Obviously, you can't receive a text message to a landline number so this service reads the text message out to you in a robotic voice. In my case this was a legitimate text, it explained the company it came from, that the item had been dispatched for delivery and when it was due for delivery.

The call purported to be an SMS but there were no details of who it was from and faintly said something on the lines of: sorry I couldn't call earlier but will ring back later. I did press one to hear the message again and to try to get details. I did not call the number again in case it was a scam

Audio text service number. Google this number, search through and you will find a company AQL.TTS. This company translates a text sent to a landline into audio and relays it to the recipient. Full details on the web page. It includes a 'support' link on the top of the web page ad that will take you to a complaints report page. Right not to call back any unknown number that called. AQL is, I think, the 2nd largest of these audio text services behind the BT Openreach service.

7.15am Call. Went onto answerphone. Reference to a same day Sainsbury's delivery. Oddly I was expecting a delivery from Sainsbury's. This was obviously not from Sainsbury's. The voice was robotic, unclear and rambling, plus it was not a Sainsbury's number. I suspect it is a premium number. It's odd and frightening and needs to be stopped.
