Sky Breakdown Cover (Scam call) reported by


Got a call from a Jerry saying he was from Sky breakdown and that they were changing the way that breakdown cover was charged. He didn't have my name which is always suspicious. I told him that I wasn't aware I hd breakdown cover. He tried to claim it was part of my monthly bill and that they were moving to collect the money with a one-off payment annually. He quoted the cost numbers and made it sound like a good deal. He started asking for my credit card number to make the payment and started getting irritated when I said there was no way that I give my credit card details over the phone. He got pushy about why I wouldn't pay now and check later ?? I asked hime for his name and number and said I would call him back - Jerry Williams was the name he gave - sounded like he was calling from a call centre and he had a strong Indian accent. He was reluctant to give his details and said he preferred to call me back. I mad it clear the this would not happen and that I would check the number and my Sky details. I checked my Sky details and billing and I clearly don't have any breakdown cover. A complete Scam.

You go for anything - doesn't make much difference. Insurance is secure than AMC though its bit costly in my opinion.

Pretending to be Sky Protect Ring the real Sky Protect on 0800 no (Scam call) reported by


She said she worked for Sky Protect and she knew that I had a policy with them. She said that Sky were looking to move away from monthly direct debits and wanted to offer their customers a saving for paying a year and even more for two years payment in advance. I had only renewed my cover with Sky Protect in April and thought it strange. I then asked her, as she was asking for a lot of information from me, for a telephone number. She readily said 0208 0890896 and her ID as SM24325C. I felt she was ready to be challenged and did not hesitate or refuse to give me this information. However, I went along with her because, to be honest, I was rather taken in by the pay in advance offer which some companies do offer. To cut a long story short I agreed to take out the two years' cover for £180.00 giving her my credit card details. Deal done, I put the phone down and immediately called the above number - they answered as Sky Protect, but it was a guy with an Indian accent. I claimed to have misdialed and put the phone down. I then knew it was a scam. I called Sky Protect on their 0800 5978531 number and the guy who answered the phone said they were aware of this latest scam. One useful tip he gave me was, if in doubt, to ask for the Policy Number as this is something that scammers cannot readily give. I then called my credit card company and cancelled the card, fortunately all the above actions, on my part, took no more than five minutes. Within an hour I had received nine calls from Sarah, I took the last one and told her that I was working with the Police (of course this was a lie) and that I knew it was a scam. I told her that I had cancelled the card and reported the incident to the Police (this is now true). I told her that she seemed like a nice person and she should leave the company. She thanked me for the advice!!
