O2 scam 40% discount (Scam call) reported by


Man rang up, very pushy claiming to be from O2 and offering me a 40% discount for customers who "pay well". I queried who it was and the man sent text messages to me from the same number other O2 texts had come from. This IS A SCAM, DO NOT GIVE ANY CODE, ANY DETAILS. I have blocked the number. BLOCK THE NUMBER!

they will call to offer you 40% discount. Eventually they will ask for a verification code! do not!!! they are essentially going ot change your password and use the verification to do so while telling you it is something else. THey will say that your password will be reset later but it probably wont I didn't wait long enough to see. I changed my pass word straight away and spent hours undoing the actions

O2 rebate offer - fraudster (Scam call) reported by


Man said he was from O2 and offered a 40% discount. I said I didn't believe him, he sent me a verification text actually from 02 which threw me for a few seconds (it was from same number as all my other 02 texts). DO NOT GIVE THEM THE VERIFICATION CODE. 02 will never call you unexpectedly to offer a rebate. I reported this to 02 & asked how he could have sent the text and they had no answer.

This is exactly what happened to me, however I wasn't as sharp as you and gave them the verification code. I felt uneasy the more I thought about it and went online to log into my o2 account, when I couldn't and went to reset the PW I noticed the email it was being sent to had been changed, they added a "1" to the address. Immediately I called o2 fraud dept, they had got in changed my PW and secret question and ordered a new phone! luckily I contacted them quickly enough to stop it being sent out. The fraudsters msgd after to confirm conversation etc and never asked for any detail....as Ellis says above DO NOT GIVE THEM THE VERIFICATION CODE.

I had the same conversation, text marked from 'O2 UK', is slightly different from other O2 messages which arrived from 'O2UK'.
