I logged into my hotmail account using google chrome and a red screen message popped up saying someone has tried getting my email and bank account info and that I should contact number below which seemed to be from google... I called number and they told me to do all sorts which I did. This took over an hour. Agent kept putting me on hold. He then said I should turn my computer off and I should do the same with my router which I did. Eventually, another person came on the line saying he’s the manager of the previous guy I was dealing with and said they couldn’t help me with my system... I was like ”Are you serious” after an hour... He said I should take my system to a local shop. I kept asking questions as I was worried my info might have been taken/hacked. He then hung up on me. I quite worried as I’m not sure what to do from here... I have turn computer back on. It seems to be working fine but kind of paranoid someone is watching everything I do on my system. Please can someone advise if possible...

False message from Google Chrome. (Unsolicited call) reported by


Just received an audio message and pop up claiming to be from Google, saying that my computer is at risk. Personal information could be stolen i.e. bank details and that I should freeze my accounts. The message also said that my firewall protection has prevented an attack but I still need to ring this number: 0800 088 5258. I kind of knew it was a scam but at the same time I thought it was a genuine message. A feeling of panic and fear rushed through me as I thought what the f*** has happened to my computer. I typed the number in my phone, with the intention of calling the number. Thankfully, I started to think straight and Googled the number first. Search results showed I was correct in thinking that it was a scam. It is scary receiving such messages, especially when it is red and taking up the entire screen on your computer, telling you, this, that and the other. DO NOT RING THIS NUMBER. IT IS A SCAM. Do not allow panic to set in and call this number as it will just create problems.

Urgent error message claiming to be from Google Chrome on my PC. (Unsolicited call) reported by


An urgent error message window popped up on my screen claiming to be from Google Chrome Support. Said I had been virused. Gave number 0800-088 5258 to call for 'help'. Do me a favour, was I born yesterday.... obviously a scam by scum. I closed my laptop session down and restarted it as a precaution anyway.... it has been fine since.

Pop Up window claiming you have a virus & asking to access PC (Scam call) reported by


I have been browsing on the internet, then a pop up window said that I had a serious virus! (The same message was in audio repeatedly). The pop-up window itself advised to ring Microsoft Support on this number: 08000885258 and when I did, a man answered as he was working for Microsoft Support, even if I challenged him. Then he said that he will help me to remove the virus and has asked me to run a program so he could access my computer. Don't do it! They will steal all of your passwords and credit card details. I hanged up and they have tried to ring back!

Internet Popup - you have a virus blah blah blah (Scam call) reported by


Popup purporting to be form microsoft claiming I have a virus, adware, spyware on my PC. Only way to close it is CTRL + ALT + Del and end browser task. When you re-open browser close all tabs from the rightmost ones as quickly as you can. If Using Edge empty following folder before you re-open it: C:\Users\yourID\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default\Recovery\Active

Also received one purporting to be from Firefox, came via an Huffingtonpost page. Closed down computer and carried out a security scan on start up.
