got a code via text and a message supposedly from my brother asking me to return it urgently which i did my phone number was instantly deregistered from whatsapp and friends were getting the same message from me. I've been locked out of my whatsapp account. Too late for me but hopefully this will help someone else from getting hacked.

WHATSAPP 6 DIGIT VERIFICATION (Unsolicited call) reported by


I received 3 notifications over 3 weeks to update my Whats app. I clicked the notification and was taken to Google Play and pressed update but nothing happened. I uninstalled and reinstalled which prompted a SMS text from this number containing a 6 digit verification code and the option to send it by link. I uninstalled and reinstalled again. Same thing happened. I have reported to Action Fraud and Whatsapp has confirmed this is a hoax. Believe the number is registered to EE. Whoever is operating from it should be found, arrested and punished after years of activity.
