Spoofed HSBC fraud number (Scam call) reported by Andy
They called my wif'es phone, I answered. Native English speaking girl "Amy" had her name. I passed the phone across. She said she was with HSBC Fraud Detection and started asking basic questions. She asked if we had set up a new subscription to Netflix or bought some goods online from somewhere we hadn't. They said it was likely fraudulent and needed to take action. She then asked our balance. My wife was reluctant and highly suspicious. "Amy" persisted. When my wife said she would not give out information under any circumstances, "Amy" hung up. Called the number back; appeared genuine, therefore Spoofed. Checked with HSBC that they had not contacted us. They said always to call them back on the trusted numbers on the card.

Claimed to be HSBC fraud prevention (Scam call) reported by Person
Received a call claiming HSBC fraud prevention and that I have a transition for Netflix on my account which they wanted to confirm if it was me. They also said they sent me a message and asked if I received it. I said no. They immediately sent one to me at which point I hung up on them. Called real HSBC and made them aware. Also helped, that I cancelled my bank card few days before that.

HSBC Fraud Department (Scam call) reported by S Bailey
This is a scam/fraudulent telephone number pretending to be HSBC. If you receive a call from this number do not share any details and end the call. Phone HSBC on their official number 0345 740 4404 instead if you have any concerns regarding your account.

DO NOT LISTEN TO POSITIVE ANSWERS! TOTAL SCAM! (Scam call) reported by Anon
I got a call from this number claiming they were 'Clive Graham from HSBC Fraud Team' and there was attempted payment requests on my card from France. I had already cancelled my card but they knew my mother's maiden name and where I lived (but didn't give an address). Also got a 'confirmation' text which had the same number as the HSBC website.

Young man calling from “HSBC” (Scam call) reported by C
Young very polite man. I never answer these calls but have been waiting for a call from a 03 number. He said it was HSBC fraud dept. That they would record the call and will ask no security questions but to confirm my ID could I confirm my name. I stupidly did. He said did I know how much was in my account. I estimated as he said a payment for £4095 was attempted by a Mr Aziz. I said I don’t know that person and I don’t have that money. He chuckled with me at that and said that he could see I had one more item on the account what was it. I said overdraft of £100 only. He said did I have any other accounts in the UK to let them know about this and i Said no only credit cards and he Asked me to wait and hung up on me. I called HSBC to say I had been called by a scammer but they said I should be fine as I didn’t give anything private like security info over. But I’m worried as what would he have got from the call if he didn’t need the security info. I’m confused. I’m ill as well which has clearly affected my logical brain.

Card Fraud (Scam call) reported by Laura
SCAM… got a text from HSBC number saying my account had been used to order from JUST EAT and if it wasn’t me they would call shortly. They called and an English sounding lady explained it and wanted security detail. I questioned what she was saying as she didn’t sound professional enough to be real. Mumbling and sounding grumpy. So I told her I’d call the bank myself from a different phone. She just hung up. No goodbye etc. The real HSBC confirmed there was no attempt to use my account and they hadn’t contacted me and that it was a scam. I can see why others would fall for this as it was convincing apart from her off demeanour. Thankfully we are trained at work to spot these things. Scum bags!

Scam Bank Fraud (Scam call) reported by Maggie
DO NOT ANSWER or give them any information. Dangerously convincing scammers! They sent a text from “HSBC FRAUD” first then followed up with a phone call. I stupidly engaged to start with as they caught me off guard and the number is spoofed so showed up as HSBC fraud department. They said someone had tried to set up a direct debit with Just Eat for a few hundred pounds. They asked me to check I had received their text. The lady was very pleasant with an English accent and she already had my name, email address, phone number and dob as well. She asked me to confirm all that then went through her “security questions” which included asking me for my user ID in full. I gave them some ID and she tried to do something with it, telling me that the system was taking longer than usual. At this point I suddenly realised how stupid I had been, hung up and called the bank myself. While on that call to the bank, the scammers tried to ring me back again and this time the real number showed up, not the words “HSBC fraud department”. A quick Google of that number led me to this page. I dread to think how many people they have scammed as they really are very good! How that woman sleeps at night is beyond me… Be careful everyone.

Yep, probably a scam. I cancelled my card and blocked my account yesterday and today I get a call from HSBC fraud, so they ask for my Date of Birth, I tell him I'm not giving him any information. He says he's not asking for my security details and that he has all my details in front of him. He told me that someone tried to pay for 2 items, one Amazon £200+ and another £500+ I say they would be lucky to get that because my account doesn't have that money in it! He tells me to look up HSBC Fraud number, which I do, but I also look up the number on another search and come up with this page. I put the call down. :) Not getting my money today!

SCAM NOT HSBC (Scam call) reported by Louise
This is a SCAM. NOT HSBC! I called my bank immediately and cancelled my card, they confirmed this was not them. Beware. They are very convincing and knew details about my postcode and where I lived. They told me to transfer monies between accounts, and would say google the number, we are the fraud prevention team. They are not.

I got the scam call 3 days ago and unfortunately fell victim to their lies! They are very convincing, even spoke with the callers manager too! Had me on the phone for 45mins asking for details and they try to win your trust by asking you to check the number which is 1 digit different to the official hsbc customer number.
Yesterday I have had money taken from my account from a company called tempcover.com. I have reported it as fraud.
Please never give your banking ID number to anyone
Never give your security code
Or password
Hsbc will never ask for these details if they are genuine.
Please ve vigilant.

Claiming to be from HSBC Fraud Team (Scam call) reported by LAM.

My wife was a victim of this today - in receipt of a text masquerading as Hermes delivery. After realising too much information had been shared we cancelled her bank card with HSBC to avoid risk. 2 hours later a call from ‘HSBC’ fraud department reporting money taken from the account and offering a new account to transfer funds into ‘safely’. The sort code for the new account was recognisable as a Barclays account which alerted suspicion and, in spite of a very convincing act from the young man on the phone, the solution seemed doubtful. We called HSBC to confirm was as a scam. Very convincing and left my pregnant wife shaken. This should not happen to anyone but be aware of the ruthless nature of these organisations - seeking further information and details about our sons and their savings accounts, distressing and worrying a key worker at 37 weeks pregnant.

I received a call from this number today.Thought it was a scam because I got scammed last year! Thankfully, got the money back. Just end the call. Contact the bank if you want clarification. Best to initiate such a call yourself so you can be sure it's the bank you're phoning and not some dodgy geezer who's phoning you.

fraud number for hsbc. I am very cautious and even I fell for it (Financial services) reported by Annoyedinthecommunity
I am usually very cautious and even I fell for it. Main thing is they sent a text message from the hsbc number prior to calling. So when I said I was suspicious (my phone even said potential fraud...silly me) they asked me to check the number the text came from. Then I said I was googling the number and they told me what to search hsbc card fraud prevention - came up with their number. Then I said I was checking the hsbc website for details and used the virtual assistant - it came up with the main number 03457404040 so I reluctantly agreed. as they suggested two transactions of hundreds of pounds from just eat and Mercedes bens. They got my name and dob. then asked for one of my memorable answers so they could put a block onto the transactions and asked me to generate a code on the app and when I gave it to them they said something wasn't correct so could I sign in and sign back out of the app so I know I'm using the right password and that's when alarm bells went off again. I asked if I could call them back as I wasn't comfortable giving so much info and he said yes and when I asked for the number he hung up. they were very convincing saying that they wanted to make sure I don't become subject to fraud. They said the transactions were made in Cumbria and clarified I wasn't in Cumbria. They suggested that the transactions had been flagged but that no money had gone out yet. During out call when I got a text message saying my online app username had been recovered I told them this and they said not to worry that it meant the block had been put into motion (more likely they were trying to access my online account via the app). In hindsight I feel stupid. He was well spoken in an English accent, with call centre noise in the background. Really shaken up as they knew lots of my personal information already including my home address which I have not given to many people as I have only moved 2 weeks ago.

the same thing happened to me on the 2/3/21. I think our cases are linked. Have you got in contact with hsbc? Any luck getting the money back?
mgx
exact same thing happened to me today (14/05/2021) - they even managed to make a bank transfer of over £7k to a fake account bearing my friend's name. thankfully I called the real hsbc and they cancelled the transaction straight away. Note to self: ALWAYS HANG UP AND CALL THE NUMBER ON YOUR BANK CARD INSTEAD
they were really convincing on the phone and spoke perfect English - that should have rung a bell as the callers are usually Scottish, eastern European or Asian as that tends to be where the call centres are. perfect English is suspicious!

My husband received a call from this number today, claiming to be HSBC fraud department. We Got an email last week from Royal Mail asking for £3 to redeliver a parcel. Which turned out to be fraudulent. I informed our bank that we paid the money with our debit card, thank god it didn’t go through. Today we get this call, as we didn’t fall for their tricks, the man became vulgar, and hung up. Be very very careful with your information.

This was a sophisticated scam. (Scam call) reported by Callum
My wife received a phishing text message the week before the call from this number - text claimed to be O2 who needed to update payment information (we are normally alert to this type of communication but had received new bank cards recently). They phoned claiming to be "HSBC Fraud Team". They rushed my wife on the phone and went through security questions, mentioned the text message and got her to read the message etc. It all sounded very legitimate. I took the call and asked them to prove who they were and they started listing everything they knew about us. Hung up and called the bank (number on the back of bank card) - the scammers had taken a loan in our name and transferred money. First Direct (sub-group of HSBC) stopped the transfers and reversed the loan - really brilliant service. But this is a confirmed SCAM. First Direct said they could clone numbers and phone from a number that looks legitimate. ALWAYS call your bank back on the official number and they will know if they contacted you and why. Remember "TAKE FIVE" - don't let the scammer rush you. Call the bank and confirm. Confirmed SCAM. Agree that the positive ratings on this site above are from the scammers. Stay safe, friends.

Hi Callum. Thank you for sharing. My wife also had similar experience but she did not received the intial phishing text. They call her from their random scam box devices and my wife got scammed and also got myself in trouble. They always pick someone who are less likely to questions back or someone who is old, lonely and fragile. So anyway got to go. Stay safe and stay well and be on guard what other ways of scamming they are planning to do next.

Do not give any information. (Telemarketer) reported by Timmy
They pose as HSBC fraud team and claim there was an unusual purchase made on the account. They then ask you to "confirm details" which will give them all the information needed to access your bank account and withdraw money. I confirmed with HSBC directly that HSBC did NOT call me regarding fraud. If you are ever unsure, hang up and call a number that you know, such as the number on the back of your card. The positive reviews are reviews from the scammers themselves. Take care.

John
Hi Timmy. I agree with you. My friend received a call from these scammers last month and managed to tricked they way through. They always picked on someone who are vulnerable and who do not have alert instinct. We just have be on guard and warn others. Take care and stay safe.
Ian
Well, I'm confused. I called the (different) number on my card and asked whether this (03546008891) was a legitimate HSBC number, and the woman at the other end looked it up and confirmed that it was the Fraud Detection Team. However, when I then called that number it redirected to another number. The guy at the other end said he was with Fraud Detection. I asked him to confirm the number that I'd called and he read out a completely different number. I made my excuses and hung up.
If this really is a legit HSBC number then they should have better systems in place to give people confidence that they know who they are dealing with. I'm still not sure whether I was speaking to a real employee or a fraudster.
John
Hi Ian. Please dont get confused. The scammer hijacked or spoof the hsbc telephone number 03456008891. So when you received Telephone call from them do not pick it up. It is a scam. If you call the telephone number then it is a legimate telephone number. Even that is not garantee and technology advances so fast that they maybe be able to hijack or spoof both direction (with when you dial the telephone number or when you receive the call from this number). So far just receiving the call. So do not pick up the phone when the scamers call you. Stay well and safe brother.
