They pretend you’re in trouble for not paying taxes, then they ask for bank details and request payment otherwise you will be arrested. It is not hmrc at all. Just hang up and ignore the number. If in doubt, ring HMRC official number from HMRC website.

american computer voice offering me tax refund blocked this number it has now rang me back on slightly different numbers as I keep blocking them. Now teling me I will go to prison if I dont call back !! Never call back the obvious on this i why would some machin with an american accent call about UK tax refund. Where have they got my phone number from I thought now no one is allowed to share my information without my permission.

SCAM- they saying that call is from HMRC (Scam call) reported by


BE CAREFUL!! First that number called me with an automatic information "This is final warning from HMRC regarding criminal prosecution on your name. Please call us back 0333 344 3154". I called back (ME CRIMINAL??!! I am innocent!!) and person who answered told me that HMRC have to refund me 648 GBP and asked about my bank card details!! He did not ask about proof of my name, address or date of birth, just straight away- "give me your card details, I will stay with you via phone up to moment when everything will be complete" I told that I have to check it and I finished call. I already knew that I am not elgible to any HMRC refunds because I filled my tax refund year by year on my own... I decided to call HMRC and report it. Guess what?... HMRC never call about things like that! They always SENDING a LETTER!! Lovely HMRC advisor filled report and send it to SECURITY TEAM- they will investigate that case. Please let know about that your family (especially grandparents, but also- parents!) I think that in the end of call if you will give them any details they will take money off your account and you will never be able to have it back. ALSO: HMRC helpline numbers usually started 0300 200. BE CAREFUL AND LET KNOW YOUR LOVED ONES TO PREVENT ANY FINANCIAL TROUBLE. To haters: I am not British origin so I am very sorry if wrote any grammar mistakes or used wrong word form. I just did my best to inform you what happened...

When I answered the phone I had a computerised message giving me a number to call saying I had to contact this number urgently to prevent criminal charges from HMRC. I didnt catch the number so i called back the above number and they said i am due a tax rebate of over £500 and they asked if i had my bank card details handy.
