Whilst the number when you call it back is for HMRC, the initial phone call is from scammers. All they have done is programmed their outbound dialler to show on mobile screens the correct HMRC number. This will fool a lot of people so everyone is correct, Yes it is a number for HMRC and Yes it is a scam.

Had a call from them in which they said I owed money to HMRC and that I could be facing a court order for fraud they had alot of my personal information address and more details I made an excuse and put the phone down I then contacted the HMRC of the government website I gave them the ID number the caller gave me and straight away told me it was a scam they then put the information on there computer network and also in my personal info to plus the call was recorded becareful people there's some horrible people out there that will prey on good people.

HMRC do not call you. They only write to you. This is a SCAM. Hmrc told me TODAY that they are using their number to call ppl. Terminate the call and call back if in doubt. Report to action fraud to protect those who might fall for this.

Had this call today, asking for my ni number, thank god the line was so bad as I am in Thailand, said I would call back on my return, now realise this is a scam of some sorts
