Had the voice msg from hmrc saying about legal action if I don't get back in contact so I had a live chat with hmrc who confirmed this is a scam and will be reporting this to the police, these people are scum and relay on fear to make a quick buck, people who try these tactics are scum and I don't negotiate with scum bags, hope the police throw the book at them. Just block the number don't bother ringing back they ain't worth your time or effort

Call to husband from 'HMRC' - 5 year investigation and £4000 owing. When he said he didn't do internet banking they said police were coming around. Then had another call from the 'police' saying they were on the way. Very threatening and sick people

Scam call from Michael Carter supposedly HMRC (Nuisance call) reported by


I had a missed call from 02080891256 which I phoned back and spoke to a Michael Carter who said he was from HMRC and that I was going to be arrested later today for tax fraud in years 2012 to 2015. I was left a voicemail from a women with an american accent who said she was Brenda Wilkins from HMRC Fraud department. I was told that HMRC had tried to hand deliver a letter to me in February but was unable to deliver it because we were out. A card had supposedly been left asking me to pick up the mail from the Post Office but, of course, I had not received anything. I was threatened with court action for tax fraud of £3998 which, with penalties would come to £18,984. I was told that my passport had been stopped and a lien taken out on all my assets. I asked Michael Carter to phone on my landline and explain what I was supposed to have done but no such call happened.
