Said I had £2k debt that had to be paid, I had to do it now or I'd be arrested, there was a court case against me and they were watching my house. Really unpleasant man who was rude and aggressive. Just about to report it to HMRC. Thanks for this site, it was very easy to confirm this was a scam.

This is clearly a scam, When I called back, a person answered within 2 mins and asked “how can I help”. Cal the official HMRC number and see how hard it is to actually get through to a person!

They said that acting behalf of the HMRC tax fraud department. They said there is a court case against you due tax offense. Hang up and then I checked with the HMRC's customer service. Of course they said they never call you... Avoid

Caller accent was Indian, being a **** and was sleeping, thot to waste his time. Was on the fone for 30 mins. Was asking £1260 to pay for HMRC fraud and tax evasion. Words he used were US federal related i.e. affidavit, attorney and sheriff, it was very easy to suss and play with him, till he hanged up saying "f...off". Ha! Ha! Ha!.

Voicemail left after literally one ring saying 'You are the subject of a prosecution, and your house is under surveillance, be sure to call this number back etc etc' Horrible call. Obviously a scam but if an elderly person were to answer I think this would be very upsetting

The robocall suggested it was from 'Her Majestys Revenue and Customs' and my house was under surveillance. Its not normal for a government body to tell you you're under surveillance so it's easy to spot it's a fake call. Some people will be conned by this BEWARE

The message has been tweaked to no longer mention HMRC, perhaps to avoid having HMRC on the scammers' backs. It just says "You are the subject of a prosecution, and your house is under surveillance, be sure to call this number back". The kind of message that could really scare an elderly person into responding - nasty.
