Beware people calling seeking appliance info! Harvesting this info is Step 1. Then at some point afterwards, someone else (claiming to be calling from somewhere local to you but often sounding like they're from some exotic location) will call daytime hoping to speak to your elderly mum / dad & claim to be from some insurance Co or other & then offer some great warranty deal etc (on one or more of the very appliances they were previously provided details of by the home occupant) so it seems legit & then they will attempt to con the elderly person they're speaking to to give them their bank details - as much info as possible. Obviously it can only be for nefarious reasons that they would want that information. Record the calls if you intercept them & pretend to be elderly & see what happens. Report it. Block the number.

they called and asked for Alan, which is my Dads name. then confirmed my postcode as a postcode i havent lived at for 10 years. the lady was nice, but these calls are completely unnecessary. asked what brand of Fridge i have, how long i've owned it, and what brand is my washing machine, and if it was over 1 year old. Answer if you wish, seems harmless, but i imagine they will now call back as they know i'm live.

Introduced themselves as working for "Consumer services" - Instead of them admitting that they've actually bought peoples' information, they claimed that I'd signed up to for these surveys/market research but I didn't. I've had several companies saying that they were doing surveys and they just end up taking it down and using the information for tons of reasons so I stopped years ago but the phone calls started were coming randomly and more frequent than before. 10 years ago I did mine online with Valued Opinions - that didn't even call me unless it was scheduled. It waa mainly emails and other The people who ring me to complete surveys do now is boardline harrassment. My parents have the same problem too so it's not unheard of.
