Checked the number on the vodafone number checking tool here https://www.vodafone.co.uk/isvodafonecalling/ and it is in fact a real vodafone number. They knew who I was and my address but were quite keen on me accepting the deal which seemed almost too good. But when I checked the number on the tracker above it said it was legit, and when they called back and I accepted the offer they were able to send me texts from registered Vodafone numbers, had my account details and didn't ask me for more than name, email and postcode which were only asked after they had proved (without prompting) that they were in fact legitimate. Very polite and friendly service, even though I was caught off guard by being specifically called just to be offered a good deal (usually have to go the other way round!)

They had an upbeat voice and said they were from Vodafone, then said, as I was a good customer I would be entitled to some excellent deals. Then they said, due to data protection could I please confirm my name and address. I though 'well that's dodgy!' I said no more and hung up. If they didn't know who I was, how did they know I was a good customer!?!
