Claim to be HMRC and I owe £3000 gong back to 1996. Said there was a warrant out for my arrest for tax evasion and fraud and they would send two people legal around to explain debt (and no doubt try to extort money). This is a scam beware.

I had same call same conversation. I was subject to fraud investigation and tax evasion. I said if this was actually true then send me papers in the post. Couldn't because they are already lodged with the courthouse. Very American or French Canadian. I am a very forceful person and he wouldn't be put off. Even when I said I would report him to the police

They claimed to be from HMRC HQ - Asian accent. I phoned HMRC up myself, after hanging up, and they told me it was a scam. They claimed that there was an arrest warrant out for me and that I had committed tax evasion and tax fraud. This number is a scam!

Left on my answer phone twice today while I was out - clearly a pre-recorded message - only got 1/2 of it both times as it starts before the "hello I'm not in" message has finished being played but agree with the threatening feel to it as described by nettie1 above
