Scam call , foreign bloke, said he was from a government backed service and could make all my problems with scam calls go away. Played the game with him, not giving any details away. The best thing was it was obvious it was a scam, literally no voices in background!!!. He was insistent no bank details necessary as he went on and on and on, then slipped in that the cost for the service was £30. Hmmm I thought he wants me to pay for it? So questioned him on it , couldn't get any sense out of him, so I got bored and hung up:)

Definitely a scam, phone rang and displayed as unavailable which I don't normally answer, but not busy so decided I would, lady the other end with a slight foreign accent saying she was from a government backed scheme to block nuisance calls, ironic as she was one, I asked her why it came up as unavailable if it was a government scheme, she made some excuse but I asked her for a number so I could contact them myself, so she gave me the above number which I then checked on here,

Caller said they were from the Call Prevention Service working in conjunction with the TPS and the UK Government. They wanted to put my number on a secure list. Caller Nivea Brown encouraged me to give their customer service dept a call on 0203 051 0987 and gave a London address as their headquarters. She was very keen to put me through to her supervisor who would verify that she was genuine(!). Realised it was a scam from the start as she was ringing from abroad but denied it when confronted. I said I would call their customer service number when I had verified with TPS that they were genuine and ended the call. My 1471 showed 003097.

They said they were from CPS and I thanks to them I would never get a nuisance call ever again!! Spoke to them for a bit, played the game. In the meantime I had googled the number and came across these ratings. By then I had been transferred to the supervisor so I told him what I had found about their service online and he promptly hung up on me!

I've just been called regarding nuisance call. I was asked to confirm name, address, postcode etc. which I did but then asked for a number and name of company so I could check it out as I was in a hurry. I 1471 and the number came up as 003097. Should I be concerned that I confirmed the information? She said they were a government backed company.

Scam call from Indian chap unusually named Bruce Johnson. Wanted personal details which I wouldn't give. I asked for number to call him back and he was reluctant because then I wouldn't get back to him personally. I told him that a genuine representative of TPS wouldn't work on commission so wouldn't care. He gave this number but again suggested that i ask for him. What a shameless scam.

hAVE HAD THESE PEOPLE CALL ME TWICE, THEY EVEN ARGUED WITH ME ABOUT MY CARD NUMBER (GAVE THEM FALSE ONE) TRIED THE 0800 NUMBER HE GAVE AS CONTACT, NOT ECOGNISED. THE SECOND CALL I REALISED SAME PEOPLE, BUT THIS YIME LADY CALLED 'JESSICA'. YES LIKE THAT IS A POPULAR ASIAN NAME! TOLD HER TO GET OFF LINE AS IT WAS A SCAM. TO MY AMAZMENT SHE RANG ME BACK AND TOLD ME AS I HAD BEEN SO RUDE TO HER SHE WAS GOING TO CUT OF MY TELEPHONE CONNECTION. SHE DID NOT SAY ANY MORE AS I THINK I DEAFENED HER WITH THE WHISTLE I KEEP BY THE PHONE FOR THESE PESTS!!

Have fun and play with them. These are the rules. You play along with them, not confirming anything or gifting them information. You take up as much time as possible. You only win the game if you get them to say 'You are wasting my time' and you reply 'No, you called me, you are wasting your time'. I have been playing along for years and don't tire of it. Perhaps I should get out more. My fave was when told I had a problem with my computer. I said yes I will have problems opening windows because of it, and could they wait as it was a slow process. 10 mins later they were still on the line. I said 'All my windows are open now, can I close them as it's getting rather cold'. The silence before the hang up was priceless.

Unsolicited call claiming to be working on behalf of a government backed agency working with 'The Telephone Preference Service'. Caller was called 'Dave' and had a very strong Indian accent, he didn't understand me referring to Telephone Preference Service' by just its initials TPS. Claimed that as of today they would be able to block all unsolicited calls as the service had now been extended to international numbers, all this would require was for me to hold on the line while he transferred me to the activation team. At this point I hung up but they phoned back almost straight away, I let the answer phone kick in and they did not leave a message. They referred to me throughout the call by my maiden name, but I married and changed all details over 2 years ago. He did refer to blocking PPI and my data being traded internationally if I didn't allow them to activate the service. Definitely a scam

This person of Indian origin claimed to be working on behalf of the Telephone Preference Service and asked if I was interested in Blocking unwanted international calls. I played along but am always wary of Indian accents. The caller seemed to suggest that I would not pay any service charges or maintenance for this service but then seemed to suggest that I would get a box of some sort. She asked for the last four digits of 'the credit card I had given TPS' and the expiry date also my email. Of course I did no such thing and stopped the call. She gave me this number to call 020 30510987 which did not respond.

30/08/16 Just had the same call but she (Indian sounding lady)as well as name, address and postcode she quoted 4 last digits of card we supposedly pay our phone line rental via - which husband didn't take any notice of and couldn't confirm if correct as he didn't have card in front of him. Husband said he'd left it at mother in law's. She asked when he could go and get the card - she'd wait. He said that it was miles away. She's ringing back tomorrow to get the details! Said she rung as a result of us receiving unsolicited overseas calls - how does she know this? We are registered with TPS but that is a free service and does not block overseas calls. The first lady had passed my husband on to her 'Supervisor' also Indian sounding, to verify everything. Gave us 0203 0510 987 to verify too. It's all a big scam. She'll find out tomorrow that the call has been reported to Action Fraud and he can't give her any details until they have investigated!

Got a call allegedly from this number. He asked if I had received any nuisance or annoying calls. He said that we're working with TPS. I asked for a number on which I could contact them - he gave me 020 3051 0987. And he also gave me a website www.callpurifier.com - however the English language on this "American" site is so bad you just know that it's rubbish. BTW using 1471 after the call gave the calling number 03097 (?)

my 81 year old mum had the same phone call today,saying that it was a Government backed scheme to stop cold callers, the woman that mum spoke to said that to show this was a genuine call she would put her through to her supervisor, a very polite Indian gentleman, he then asked for a small fee of £19.99 and her card details,he gave her the above number to ring them back, mum said no not on your n..ly and put the phone down. so beware there are a lot of rogues about

I have had five calls today from this number firstly the reception was terrible, then I received 3 silent calls the last one they said they were a company called CPS who work alongside the TPS to block marketing calls BUT the best bit was they needed me to pay a one off fee for them to stop all marketing calls!!!! I told them I would not pay them a penny and said goodbye.

Same here. Unsolicited call on a poor line from a "Jennifer J" (with an Indian accent, supposedly calling from a call blocking service. Wouldn't give further details of the company when asked, but claimed to be working in collaboration with TPS to block international calls. Wanted confirmation of name and address, gave me this number to report any unwanted calls after 3 days. Eventually tried to get the details of my credit card expiry date and number, at which point I declined and hung up. Another call followed almost immediately which I didn't answer; 1471 produced only "You were called . ."
