False Claim Of Debt Owed (Scam call) reported by 185.230.125.xxx
Woman on the phone. Thicker than **** ****. Introduces herself by first name only. Refuses to give last name, the company she works for or any other details. (probably because she's a cold heartless scammer!) Claims that your home address is now a commercial premises and she has received notification of this (SCAM ALERT!) and that your <insert name of limited company here> Ltd company means that your home address is liable for business rates and you owe £xxx,000 in back business rates. When you ask her questions it becomes obvious very quickly that she doesn't know the first thing about businesses, how they work, or the British legal system - despite the fact she'll try to convince you she's the oracle. The fact that she manages to tie her shoe laces and breath in and out without careful instruction is truly miraculous! Demands immediate payment of money to stop court action. (SCAM ALERT!). Claims that a court has decided you're personally responsible for a Ltd companies debts (false - SCAM ALERT!!) - the details they use are scraped from Companies House - if you try to dig deeper, they know nothing than is publically available on the Internet. Apart from company details you may have been related to, the rest of the information provided is phony. She is using a well known VoIP provider, AQL Wholesale Ltd - a favourite of many scam artists we've encountered recently. AQL Wholesale Ltd provide no complaints procedure regarding the clients use of their telephones for potentially criminal activity - certainly no process we could uncover on their fancy corporate website. Using this service means the scammer can pick a geographic number of their choice to make it appear they live in the same region or town as you - perfect for scammers. Attempts various ploys to extort money from you - including blackmail - all crimes in the UK last time I checked. "Sends the baliffs round" - "they'll be with you in 30 minutes and will break in if you're not there". Never arrived!
